MIT Challenges
Each year, our team highlights three MIT experts and delivers challenges to students based on their work. The videos my coworkers and I make to introduce these challenges have some of the highest production value in our collection and are created collaboratively.
These videos were a group effort. My boss wrote the first draft of the scripts. My co-worker and I then modified the scripts and produced the videos.
I wanted an alien in the Alien LIFE video. I thought we'd have time to hire a 3D artist to create one for us, but we definitly didn't. So I scraped together a rough understanding of Cinema 4D in 2 weeks, to create this diamond ball of an alien that is Lumi. She's from exoplanet HD 260655b and is adorably energetic!Â
I ended up conceptualzing and editing the Sea Sleuths video and really pushed myself to bring a detective theme to life. I made a corkboard and tried to keep a visual theme throughout. I also tried to pull off having video look like it's playing on paper, like they do in Harry Potter.
Part of the challenge these particular videos posed was bringing science to life in a silly way during COVID. Above are a few examples of how I did this.
These videos were the first major set of videos we produced on the job and where I started developing a style.
I love the YouTube channel Kurzgesagt and wanted to learn how to illustrate in their style. So I dove into illustrator and created backgrounds for these videos using their artwork as reference.
